COLLEGE BASKETBALL — February 28
MICHIGAN STATE at PURDUE
(Purdue -4) — [private] Robbie Hummel, who is Purdue’s most versatile player, has gone down for the season with a torn ACL. That’s discouraging, but coach Matt Painter emphatically says, “I like what we have.” Guard E’Twaun Moore burned the Spartans for 25 points in an earlier meeting, and the Purdue defense, led by stopper Chris Kramer, held Kalin Lucas to just two field goals in 29 minutes. The concern about Michigan State here is that the Spartans usually come together and come down the stretch strong for coach Tom Izzo, but with four losses – two of them in East Lansing – in the last two games, that doesn’t seem to be happening.
