COLLEGE BASKETBALL — March 28
NCAA Tournament @ Houston
STANFORD (+3.5) vs. TEXAS (Total 134.5) — Stanford certainly poses a problem with their “twin towers” in Brook and Robin Lopez. But we’re not all that confident in their perimeter players, who have all too often defaulted into just feeding the post. Texas comes with much more imagination in the backcourt, with the almost incomparable duo of DJ Augustin and AJ Abrams, who combined for 38 points in the second-round win over Miami. And the Longhorns aren’t going to be compromised too badly at all up front, with the very capable Connor Atchley (54% FG’s) and Damion James, who had 16 points and 16 rebounds in the second-round game. Texas gives the ball away about as seldom as any team left in this tournament, and they’ll be virtually playing in front of a home crowd. Remember, Texas is good enough to have beaten UCLA, Tennessee and Kansas while all of them were in the top six in the country. When they are focused - and some of that focus was lacking against Miami - they are quite possibly the toughest team in this tournament to beat.
