PRO BASKETBALL — May 11
Game 4 — Western Conference Playoffs
NEW ORLEANS (+6) at SAN ANTONIO (Total 188) — The Hornets did a lot of things right in game 3 of the series - Chris Paul brought his assists-turnover ratio in this series to 34-4. That’s unreal. And New Orleans hit 49% of its shots. So it was not a total downer. But the long-range shooting game was missing, and that’s because the Spurs made the key move of putting Bruce Bowen in lock-down mode against Peja Stojakovic, who scored just eight points on two field goals. That worked, and could work again for San Antonio, which has decided to let Paul score his points, as long as he isn’t able to spread the floor and create a lot of balance in the attack. Another big move for the Spurs was starting Manu Ginobili and giving him more minutes. Ginobili responded with 31 points, and if his left ankle can hold up, he creates a matchup problem for the Hornet defense. With two days off, Ginobili gets a little extra rest and so does Tim Duncan, who has been getting over a fever.
