 Mixed martial arts wagering is a relatively recent development. But the lines work much the same way as they do in boxing.
For example, here is one fight from UFC 78:
RASHAD EVANS -300
MICHAEL BISPING +240
In this one, if you like Evans, you have to lay 3/1, which means that you are going to be wagering three dollars for every dollar you expect to win. You are able to take back +240 on Bisping, which means for every dollar you wager, you will profit $2.40 if Bisping wins. If you wanted to simplify Bisping's number to a fraction, he would be 24/10, or, as it is reduced, 12/5.

- "Generally anyone who is +200 or higher is someone that a bettor should automatically consider for further analysis in MMA, especially if it's someone in UFC. A lot of times, UFC is really a lot of dirty boxing (unlike the other MMA promotions which are more mat-based), so underdogs are often the *safest* pick in a UFC fight. Recent history proves it."
 - "Your most solid bets for favorites in MMA are wrestlers, then Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters, then strikers. Because there are so many facets to MMA, anyone can win with a lucky punch and therefore underdog bets are always attractive. Otherwise, if you're a conservative bettor, always take the wrestler (with an amateur background, that is) first because they manage to control the action the most in an MMA fight. They may not submit or win by TKO, but they will likely at least get decision wins."
- "The higher the weight class, the more valuable wrestling is. The smaller the weight class, the more submissions and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu come into play. With more speed involved in 155 and 170, submissions are a must. The pure strikers and non-grapplers rarely win."
