— The Red Sox slowed down the Tampa Bay express last night with a 7-3 win behind Clay Buchholz. Now it’s Josh Beckett taking the hill for them. Beckett gave up just a run and struck out 13 Rays last Sunday, Again he goes up against Tampa Bay’s sudden ace, James Shields, who outdid Beckett on that particular day with a stunning two-hit complete game shutout. In six starts, Shields has allowed more than two earned runs just once, and is better than 3-to-1 in his strikeout-to-walk ratio. That doesn’t approach last season’s 5-to-1 ratio, but it’s moving in that direction. Beckett has been a little less consistent than that. We feel compelled to take the price.
